WELCOME
CALL TO WORSHIP
Sisters and brothers, Lenten pilgrims,
together we embark on a wilderness journey.
Pilgrims on a road of awe and wonder.
We journey through places of solitude, questions and reflection.
Pilgrims on a road to self-discovery and learning.
We journey through times of alienation, hunger and thirst.
Pilgrims on a road to oasis and refreshment.
We journey through struggles born of circumstance or choice.
Pilgrims on a road to acceptance and healing.
We journey through the hills and valleys of faithful living.
Pilgrims on a road to compassion and liberation.
We make this journey together side – by – side – moving with
Christ to the beat of God’s heart.
Pilgrims on a road to risen life.
* HYMN #595 “We Are Pilgrims On A Journey”
OPENING PRAYER
At the beginning of Lent we return to you, O God. We turn away
from all that clutters up our lives and makes them junkyards of
despair; our endless worrying, our wondering who is doing
better than we are, our secret hope that we can take it with us,
the grudges we have cherished like precious gems, the harsh
judgements and the easy prejudices, the conviction that we are
just so very, very busy, all the attempts to let everyone know how
deserving we are. (silence)
At the beginning of Lent we return to you, O God, to
your love, to your mercy, to your forgiveness, to your
promise of a fresh start, a clean slate, a reformatted disc.
Please welcome us in the name of Jesus, as we pray
together singing ….Our Father …. AMEN.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Beckoning spirit, guiding hand: You go before us, leading us into
the unknown – deeper and deeper into a landscape full of
reflection and searching for truth, stripped of things that distract
and indulge us. We confess that we are often afraid to enter this
journey of faith. In the silences we wonder what we will learn
about ourselves and what others will see in us. The emptiness can
make us feel anxious – a testing place as we tread into the
unknown.
(silent reflection)
Give us courage, O God.
Help us to see the Christ before us, we pray.
Sometimes we feel we need endless comforts and the sounds and
things that will make life easier. Then we find we need to do just
one more thing before we go.
(silent reflection)
Help us to let go of excess baggage and follow You now, O God.
To travel lightly with your Spirit, we pray.
If we forget or leave behind those who would slow us down,
impatient to stay with our agendas and schedules, remind us of
your abiding love for all people.
This we pray in faith. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Calling us, leading us, guiding us,
God gathers us in compassion and grace.
This Sacred Presence is our map.
This Sacred Presence is our way.
This Sacred Presence is our destination. AMEN
